NEWS: ECOBASE project meeting in Argyrokastro; Scientific Cooperation to Address Soil Degradation in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.

The two-day technical meeting of the ECOBASE project partners in Argyrokastro, Albania (6–7 November 2025), was completed as part of the Interreg IPA ADRION program. The University of Patras coordinates the project and aims to combat soil degradation and promote sustainable agriculture in the Adriatic and Ionian region.

During the meeting, significant progress was presented in seven key areas:

  1. Transnational Action Plan for Soil Health Management
  2. Development of Digital Platforms and Decision Support Tools
  3. Pilot Actions and Training Programs
  4. Evaluation and Analysis of Pilot Interventions
  5. Installation of Monitoring Stations and Soil Analysis
  6. Strategy for Management and Dissemination of Results
  7. Committee Meetings for the Financial, Technical, and Quality Assurance of the Project

The meeting was accompanied by warm hospitality from the Municipality of Argyrokastro, with an official welcome from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, as well as a tour of the city’s historical museums and sights, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange.

The conclusions of the meeting highlighted the importance of exchanging views and scientific data among partners as a key tool for developing common strategies and innovative solutions to prevent and restore soil degradation across the wider ADRION region.

The ECOBASE project, led by the University of Patras, continues to make substantial progress towards achieving a sustainable and resilient agricultural future in the Adriatic-Ionian region.
