NEWS: ECOBASE IPA INTERREG ADRION – Sustainable Water Use & Soil Protection in Ilia
The Soil Science Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture at the University of Patras, together with its research team, is actively contributing to modern scientific solutions for the sustainable use of irrigation water and the fight against soil degradation in the Peneus plain, through the ECOBASE-IPA INTERREG ADRION programme.
During a recent working meeting at the Regional Unit of Ilia, initiated by the Deputy Regional Governor for Rural Development, Mr. Andreas Filias, and with the participation of the Deputy Regional Governor of Ilia, Mr. Nikolaos Korovesis, representatives of GOEB/TOEB and the University of Patras, important issues regarding the new irrigation season and the challenges posed by climate instability were discussed.
Although water levels at the Peneus Dam appear to have improved this year, one message stood out clearly:
Cooperation, expertise, and responsible management are essential to protect our water resources, our soils, and our farming communities.
Through the ECOBASE-IPA INTERREG ADRION programme, the Soil Science Laboratory of the University of Patras and the Soil Science Laboratory of Western Greece support the local community by providing:
- Scientific documentation and evidence-based recommendations
- Monitoring, assessment, and predictive analysis tools
- Innovative solutions for sustainable irrigation and soil protection
Sustainable management of irrigation water and soil in Western Greece is not optional — it is a responsibility to our land, our people, and our future.
Every day, one step forward.
